While watching one of his old movies on television got me wondering about his history, I googled his name and was totally knocked out by his life story, what a life what an absolute hero this guy was and not just as a soldier but as an advocate for returning vets from later wars about PTSS or combat fatigue also from which he suffered himself. he crammed a lot into his short life a true hero in every sense of the word. I was glad to see the poems Audie Murphy wrote, especially the one about Anzio, as my late uncle died there on Anzio beach, aged 20 in WW2. A few years ago, whilst on holiday in Sorrento, my aunties and I hired a car and chauffeur to take us to Anzio to look at the cemetery where my uncle has a grave/memorial stone. Took many photos, what a lovely place it is, so beautifully kept. My 2 aunties of course remembered Thomas, their brother, my uncle, I never knew him, being born after the war. Many tears were shed that day. Later we went to Anzio beach, Anzio being a holiday town, used mainly by the Italians. My aunties did holiday there once in Anzio, but not many people spoke English, but they got by as a German couple were on holiday at their hotel at the time, and spoke very good English. Ironic I know. My thanks to Audie for that poem, which I will treasure, with my memories and photos, of Anzio and my uncle Thomas Gillott. Been to Sorrento many times but only that one time to Anzio. I just came across this website as I was looking for a list of Audie Murphy films and glad I did. Very informative site about him. Great to see and read about the medals he was given. At weekends there are quite a few of the westerns Audie made on the television and I get to see many of them when I can and watch them over again. Because of this, was wondering which ones I could possibly buy in DVD format to keep, hence why I came across this site. Now I have the list of his films, I can start to see which I can buy and collect. Thanks for all the information given about Audie. Been a fan of his for years. How awful it was to die like he did in a plane accident, after surviving all his exploits during the war years. Added: December 12, 2015 Powered by PHP Guestbook - brought to you by PHP Scripts
