When I was a teenager (in the early 90s) I watched Audie Murphy´s films, especially the westerns for the first time. Although they were already quite old-fashioned in those days, I really enjoyed them and I still do today (now mostly on DVD). I was only recently that I learned a little more about one of my favourite actors, that he was America´s most decorated war hero, but also quite a tragic person suffering from his war experiences and in civil life struggling for achnowledgment as an actor. Although I only know what I read and although there are surely also negative sides (as with any other human being), I think that Audie Murphy was a really good man.
I´ve nothing to do with the Second World War since I was born decades after this time, and yet I feel very sorry for the evil the Germans brought over so many people worlwide. I don´t know if Audie Murphy ever had any positive views about Germany (probably not); it just would have been good if he could have seen our nations finally come together.
