I happened to catch a glimpse of one of Audie’s movies the other day while in a store with a TV on. I grew up watching his movies and was told some about him by my dad who really respected him. My dad’s battalion followed the same path for North Africa to France as Audie’s unit. He was in the 83rd CMB and they were attached to the 3rd Infantry Division along the way somewhere. It wasn’t until the internet that I learned the life story of Audie Murphy. I remember when he died in the plane crash, but didn’t know much about him other than limited knowledge of his Army and movie career. I’m glad this site exists because the last of the Greatest Generation, as Tom Brokaw called them, is fading fast and the Boomers that know about him will be fading soon. Maybe the younger generations will be able to learn of this American Hero because of the fact that his memory is being kept alive by this website.
