Having just visited Arlington with my 11 yr old daughter, I was moved beyond words at the true American hero's that are fading from memory of the publics eye... Having been truly humbled I feel a sense of urgency to awaken everyone's conscience of these "gone but never forgotten hero's"...God Bless ![]() Added: August 18, 2013

There is a bunch of military history in my family, so the man, Audie Murphy, has always interested me. My father's father was awarded the MBE from the British government and was also a good friend of Winston Churchill. Grampy, as he was known to us kids, attained the rank of captain in the British Royal Air Force and fought valiantly during WWI. He told us tales of brick throwing between aircraft when ammo ran low. He was a quiet, dignified man!
My father followed his lead and joined the Army Air Corp just at the start of WWII. He worked his way into the 14th Air Command and was sent to China. He was a gunnery Sargent with the Flying Tigers. A lot of history here but no great hero's as was Mr. Murphy. My father was injured twice but received no purple heart. He carried shrapnel around in his left leg and bore the scars to prove it! Why he did not receive a purple heart is beyond me. After the war he pursued a life of peace and I guess he did not feel the need to possess the medal. He never really explained to me why not. He died on June the 3rd, 2005.
He was my hero and lived his life in a way that earned my deep respect. I loved him ever so much and miss him dearly!
