Thank you for the excellent work done here and elsewhere. I happen to be watching an Audie Murphy movie "Drums Across the River". I remembered my dad talking about the Medal of Honor... Thankfully I found this website to read up on Mr. Murphy's amazing life and heroism. Wow, a true hero - nothing like many of the cheating and disrespectful sports stars that are advertised as heroes today. He also made great movies as a true "good guy".

I now live in Athens, Texas, where, at 4 years of age visiting grandparents, I saw the movie that may have had more impact on me than any other. “The Kid From Texas,” portrayed the Lincoln County life of Billy the Kid and starred Audie Murphy. I was impacted by the showing of Billy the Kid respecting the law (true) that wasn't corrupt as represented by the Territorial Governor Gen. Lew Wallace (author of ‘Ben Hur') yet dedicated to avenging the death of his employer/benefactor John Tunstall (from Ireland) who was literally gunned down while on a buggy ride by persons employed by the L.G.Murphy/Dolan monopoly that young Tunstall had been so audacious as to compete with. First saw Wm.Bonney gravesite in NM at age 8, made considerable effort to see - and did
see Audie Murphy in person when I was17, and I have visited his gravesite at Arlington. I regret that time necessarily reduces the numbers of those who rememberLt. Murphy, a true hero. “To Hell and Back” was an outstanding motion picture. In 6th grade in Texas, the portrait of Audie Murphy that was hanging in the Capitol in Austin was in our school books. I made an effort to see it when later I was in school there.

Happy birthday Audie. Yet another year has gone by. I was also born on the same day as you. I consider it an honor. I have been a fan of yours since I was a very young girl, but never knew the magnitude of your greatness until many years later. You are my hero, you are one of the bravest most courageous men ever to walk this earth. I think I have every movie you ever made and watch them all the time, my favorite of all is "To hell and back". God bless, and rest well, you have earned it.

Can't imagine even knowing someone so profoundly brave, and I was a soldier in the US Army. It always makes me proud to enlighten some younger and unknowing individuals of his unparalleled heroism. Too few of those kind of men in this world.
