Summary: After his father and brothers are killed by rustlers, railroad surveyor Clay O'Mara (Audie Murphy) decides to hunt down the murderers by going after Whitey Kincade (Dan Duryea), a ruthless outlaw. After Clay finds the villan and arrests him, he and Whitey become friends. Whitey helps Clay but only to see how long the tenderfoot can last. Clay manages to survive several attempts on his life which have been plotted by a corrupt lawyer who is the real culprit responsible for the demise of Clay's father and brother. Finally, in a climactic showdown, Clay and a wounded Kincade face the gang. Kincade, who has become fond of Clay, decides to redeem himself and protect Clay. In an Kincade goes down shooting in a blaze of glory and the real murderers are brought to justice.
