Summary: Jim Harvey (Audie Murphy) is hired to lead and protect a wagon train as it crosses the prairie and makes its way west. When the wagon train is attacked by Indians, Jim hopes to persuade the Indian Chief Aguila to end the attack using the fact that Jim had once saved the Indian chief's son. Jim leaves to find the Indian chief. Unfortunately, Jim is captured and every member of the wagon train are killed except for two women. After escaping, Jim shows up in town and is almost hanged as a deserter. Again Jim gets away but is eventually caught by the sheriff and a posse. Before anything can be done to Jim, they are attacked again by Indians. This time, the Indians are defeated and the dying Indian Chief, Aguila, reveals the names of the white scoundrels who orchestrated the initial attack on the wagon train thus clearing Jim and his reputation.
