I am 64 years old and have been an Audie Murphy fan for years. It is really surprising how many people, even of my age group, that either never heard of him or they remember him as a movie star in movies. Even the members of the VFW and American Legion do not know who he is. I belong to the Howard VFW and was talking to the Commander of the club, a long time friend, and he said that he would bring the issue up about having the VFW's posting some information on Audie and maybe even a picture in the VFW's.

I was born in 1941 and barely remember the publicity about Audie, but grew up seeing his movies. I have always been interested in his story and just found your site. It was pleasure reading all the remberences of his friends and buddies. I am proud that He was from Texas and hope that the present generation will take an interest in his story.

I was told to go online and investigate Audie Murphy by an older gentleman that comes into the bakery where I work... He told me that my history books had failed me if I didn't know his name. He threatened to "quiz" me on him :) So out of duty I decided to look Audie up. I assure you I am extremely glad that I did.

I was born in 1940 and grew up hearing of Audies honorable and bravery during WW11. Do not know if I was related by way of namesake. I served with the 4th infantry division, 1963-1965 and was always asked by members of the military if I was related. He was to me, my hero, as was a thousand other men who went before me. A thousand memories now rush by my mind. Thank you for this MEMORIAL !
