Summary: Ben Lane, played by Audie Murphy, is saved from being hanged as a horse thief by Frank Jesse, played by Dan Duryea. Ben and Frank then meet up with Kelly, a mysterious woman played by Joan O'Brien, who pays them to take her through Indian country to a little town to be with her husband. In reality, Kelly is setting Frank up and wants to kill him because Frank killed her husband in a shootout. As the three travel, Kelly attempts to seduce Ben and offers him the money promised to Frank for helping her reach town. Ben is tempted because he dreams of someday having enough money to buy a ranch of his own. Even still, loyalty to his friend gives Ben reason to hesitate. After violent encounters with Indians Frank eventually decides he wants to back out of his promise to Kelly. Despite his change of heart, a showdown between Ben and Frank eventually transpires and one of the two is led away in a funeral carriage drawn by six black horses.
