Dear Mr. Tolbert:
The enclosed letter from John W. Mountcastle, Brigadier General, U.S. Army -
Chief of Military History should be of interest and grave concern to you and
the Advisory Committee.
You wrote in your letter on November 8, 1996 that members of the Citizen's
Stamp Advisory Committee had worked along with the Chief of Military History
at the Department of Army. Brigadier General Mountcastle clearly refutes this
claim.
There are many concerned citizens who will be looking for an answer soon. An
honest answer! What's your problem?
Copies of the letter from Chief of Military History are being sent to all of
the people who have worked so hard on the petition for an Audie Murphy Stamp.

Dear Ms. Thomason,
I am very sorry for the delay in answering your letter of January 4, 1997
regarding the Audie Murphy Stamp concept. Your letter was received here in
January, but was misrouted.
Let me say first that I have never spoken with
Mr. Tolbert or anyone else
from the U.S. Postal Service about this issue. I have queried my staff and
they were unable to give me any information about
Mr. Tolbert or any request
for information that he may have sent us.
Best wishes in your endeavor.
Sincerely,
/-----Signed-----/
John W. Mountcastle
