Ms. Diane Thomason
The American Legion, Post 17
P.O. Box 717
Greenville, Texas 75401-0717

Dear Ms. Thomason:

Thank you for your recent letter to Postmaster General Marvin Runyon expressing your continued support for the issuance of a commemorative stamp honoring Lieutenant Audie Murphy.

You will be pleased to learn that the nomination of Distinguished Soldiers was recently placed before the Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee and remains under consideration. Lieutenant Audie Murphy is one of many distinguished soldiers being considered by the committee.

As you know, the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing stamp proposals and making subject and design recommendations to the Postmaster General. For your information, the Committee works at least two to three years in advance to allow sufficient time for design and production, should the subject be approved. They are currently working on the stamp programs for 1999 and beyond.

We appreciate your continued interest in our stamp program.

Sincerely,
