Dear Mr. Childs:
Thank you for your e-mail letter asking support of your petition to request
the U.S. Postal Service to honor America's most decorated World War II soldier
with a commemorative stamp.
Audie Murphy, a true World War II hero, became a movie star after the war
and many people did not know of his brave exploits in extremely heavy battle.
Small in physical stature, he was a giant in the eyes of thousands of children
who flocked to see his movies in the 1950's. He is one of over 3,000 Americans
who were awarded the Medal of Honor, and is the most decorated soldier of
World War II.
I support your efforts to have Audie Murphy recognized through a commemorative
stamp. I referred your letter to Mr. Walter Ozawa, Director of our Office of
Veterans Services, for follow up. He will raise this issue with the various
veteran organizations in Hawaii for their consideration. You may reach
Mr. Otawa at:
Office of Veterans Services
919 Ala Moana Boulevard, Suite 100
Honolulu, Hawaii 96814
Phone: (808) 587-3010
Email: wozawa@scd.hawaii.gov
Thank you for your support of one of our country's greatest heroes.
With warmest personal regards,
Aloha,
