Congress of the United States
House of Representatives

Ms. Judith A. Principe
Legislative Affairs Representative
United States Postal Service
475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW
Washington, DC 20260-0004

Dear Ms. Principe:

The enclosed correspondence from my constituent has been received in my Washington office. The letter concerns matters within the jurisdiction of your agency. More specifically, the letter concerns a subject that I have written to you before - - an Audie Murphy commemorative stamp.
In the past, you have informed me that the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee receives some 40,000 suggestions a year. You also informed me that the Committee decides on new stamps far in advance of the issue date. To my knowledge, the Committee is currently working on stamps for 2001 and subsequent years.
I am sure the Committee has a formidable and tedious job in determining which stamp submittal is worthy of acceptance. However, I find it ridiculous that the USPS has stamps of Daffy Duck and other Warner Bros.' characters, yet it continues to put off the most decorated war hero of WWII -- along with some 74,000 signatures of support.
As I understand, the Audie Murphy stamp submittal is currently being considered. Because this request has been ongoing since 1996, I am hereby requesting a detailed answer as to the status of this submittal. Furthermore, I would like a thorough explanation as to the correlation between ex-Postmaster Marvin Runyan's trip to Warner Bros. and the April 17, 1999 issue of the Looney Tunes' stamps - - which I find outrageous.
If the Committee is truly the Citizens' Committee, then I fail to understand how a citizens' request accompanied by 74,000 signatures of support can be ignored.
I would appreciate if you would look into these matters and furnish me with a response specific to the complaint and appropriate to share with my constituent. Your report should be directed to me in my Washington office. So, I am able to go to the House Floor and inform my colleagues and constituents of your decision.
Thank you for your time and assistance in resolving this matter as soon as possible. Should you have questions or need further information, please call Adam Lenhart, (202) 225-6673.
With kind regards, I am
Sincerely,

/-----Signed-----/
