E. F. Waddell (not given) We give stamps to rock stars and dinosaurs but how about a real hero who gave all for his country and today is beginning to be a faded memory. Let's honor a real American hero!!!!
John Wactor (not given) Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Sandra Waggoner Kaysville, Utah Audie Murphy should be honored with a commemorative stamp.
Stephen W. Wagner Jr. Springfield, Illinois Audie L Murphy, no man in US military history served his country more honorably in combat. The least this country can do is honor him with a commemorative stamp series.
Floyd Walfield Jacksonville, Alabama Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
MSgt James B. Walker Dayton, Ohio Audie L. Murphy epitomized the American combat soldier. He loved his country and made tremendous sacrifices in her defense during WWII. Please honor his memory with a commemorative postage stamp.
William A. Walker (not given) Audie should be honored with a commemorative stamp.
Robert R. Wall Sunnyvalle, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
John J. Walsh, III Yorktown, Virginia Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard N. Walter Paterson, New Jersey Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
CWO3 Robert J. Walter Vero Beach, Florida Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
John Walters Coral Springs, Florida Please consider honoring Audie Murphy with a whole stamp series, this man was the most highly decorated soldier of World War II and should be honored.
Robert A. Warren, Sr. New Glarus, Wisconsin Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
E. Stephen Waters, Civil Servant Perry, Georgia Sir, I am ashamed that this country has not honored Mr. Murphy. He was a hero and he symbolizes just what "America" stands for ... Freedom and Patriotism. A true American hero.
William T. Weathersby Plano, Texas We must remember the individual, totally unselfish actions and sacrifices made by Audie Murphy during WWII. He was the real deal, Mr. Runyon, and there is no better way to honor his efforts today than with commemorative stamps.
Ralph R. Weaver Albuquerque, New Mexico Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard Weaver Indianapolis, Indiana Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Sandy Webb Alexandria, Virginia Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Karen L. Weber Dallas, Texas I do not remember Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Bugs Bunny, etc. performing any act of unselfish bravery. World War II may have had a different ending if not for great men like Audie L. Murphy. I consider it an insult to America that you would choose to honor an animated character over an American hero!!
Russ Weber Sellersburg, Indiana Audie Murphy was a genuine American hero. He has received many honors -- and earned every one of them -- but has not yet been honored with a stamp. I believe that this would be a fitting tribute, but more importantly, this would give people who have heard of him a reason to ask, "Who was Audie Murphy?" and thus provide an opportunity for the American public to learn about Audie Murphy and men like him who have served America so well but are in danger of being forgotten today.
Samuel N. Weber Copperas Cove, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Charles Weible Mt. Washington, Kentucky I think it would be a great idea to honor Audie Murphy with a stamp series. It is soldiers like this man who we, as Americans, owe our freedom to. The price of freedom runs high, and Audie Murphy was willing to pay the price so that you and me have our freedom. So, I feel like a stamp can represent our "thankyou" in a small way.
David Weigand Wexford, Pennsylvania Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Bucyrus, Ohio Audie was one of this country's greatest patriots. Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Margaret Wenson Stillwater, Pennsylvania Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
SFC Robert M. West Radcliff, Kentucky Sergeant Audie Murphy was and is a National Treasure and should be recognized with a series of commemorative stamps.
Johnny Western Witchita, Kansas Audie Murphy was a dear friend of mine and a commemorative stamp series in his honor would be great.
Donna L. Wham Harker Heights, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard C. Wheeler Tucson, Arizona I strongly recommend that a commemorative stamp be issued in honor of Audie L. Murphy, the most decorated American military service member who ever fought during World War II or any war. Audie Murphy was the recipient of every medal of valor our country could give including the Medal of Honor and medals of valor earned from the countries of France and Belgium.
Lansing Brent White Redlands, California As a person who grew up in the 60's, I have some idea about peers to look up to in this country. One of the reasons it (our country) is going downhill is because of the lack of good peers. Another reason is that because of all the music stars and sales geared to kids we have forgotten to tell our children of the past. I am glad to say that my 16 year old son has seen TO HELL AND BACK which is about a young boy that did not turn into a gangster and sell drugs but instead joined the service to send home money to take care of his orphaned siblings. I think the time is now for an Audie Murphy stamp so that we can tell children about citizens of this country that did great things. What do you think?
Leo White Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Thanks for taking the time to consider our requests for the honor due this American Hero, Audie Murphy. Frankly, I am surprised that he did not have at least a commemorative stamp issued. To those with the decision on this, please read his Medal of Honor Citation.
Milton H. White III Copperas Cove, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Robert S. Writer Greenville, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
James A. Whitman Cedar Rapids, Iowa Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Shawnda Whittenburg Meridian, Mississippi Every great American hero who has served our country with pride should deserve some kind of appreciation in some form no matter what it happens to be. Of course, why not do this for Audie Murphy - after all he did fight to help keep this country free.
John W. Wiechert Belfair, Washington Please consider the importance of this stamp petition to all veterans of This Great United States of America of whom you are acting as a representative.
Ken Wiest O'Fallon, Illinois Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Karen D. Williams Copperas Cove, Texas He was a great American hero!
Keith A. Williams, Citizen Ft. Pierce, Florida I believe that Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series, as he was and still is one of America's true heroes.
Scott B. Williams, War Veteran Lawrenceville, Georgia Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Steve Williams Coldwater, Michigan I think Audie Murphy should be honored by a stamp series to help honor this great American. It is a dishonor to Audie Murphy's memory not to be remembered in this way when Bugs Bunny can have a stamp in his honor. I think this is a disgrace and a very bad example the Postmaster is setting for America's youth...
Robert Williamson Los Angeles, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Larryann Willis Santa Clarita, California Postage stamps have traditionally been utilized as a subtle way to remind people of historic events and people who have served this country. The postal service seems to have forgotten that the sacrifices made by Audie Murphy and so many other veterans are what keep this country free and have made it possible for the now privately operated postal service to make money selling Bugs Bunny and Marilyn Monroe stamps. The least they could do is to honor this country's most decorated combat soldier of WWII with a stamp.
Oliver Willis Lauderdale Lakes, Florida Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Porter Willis Santa Clarita, California The postal service has traditionally used stamps as a subtle reminder of great events in our nation's history and people who provided services and made great sacrifices for our country. What kind of a subtle message does it send to young people when the privately run postal service now prefers to sell stamps portraying people whose fame was based on self-profit motives rather than service to this country (i.e. Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley, ... and now Warner Brother's Bugs Bunny) over a national hero like Audie Murphy?????
Cheryl A. Williams Troy, Michigan Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Leonard Wilson San Francisco, California Audie is a true American hero, one to look up to and as a result should be held up for all to see. Unlike the so called heros that are touted today, Audie is the embodiment of what a true hero is.
Timothy W. Wilson Fort Belvoir, Virginia Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
John Wingfield Paso Robles, California Mr. Marvin Runyon:
Sir, the list of Americans who are honored by a commemorative stamp is small. The list of those Americans who are not is very large. The list of Americans who should never be honored is larger still. But the list the Postmaster General should be ashamed of is: THOSE AMERICANS WHO, BY ANY MEASUREMENT, SHOULD HAVE A STAMP TO HONOR THEM, BUT DO NOT!! For this country, the United States Of America, not to have a commemorative stamp in memory of, and in honor of Audie L. Murphy is beyond reasoning. Please remedy this by doing so.
Wilma Wireman Greenwich, Ohio Postmaster, I for one think it is disgraceful for you to put an entertainer like Elvis Presley on a stamp and not one of the United States true hero's. I have nothing against Elvis, in fact, he was the greatest, but to honor him with a commemorative stamp and not Audie Murphy our "hero"? This is the worse thing I have ever heard of. Audie risked his life for us. What did Elvis do???? Think about it!!!!
R. E. Wisor Hopewell Junction, New York Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Walter Witkowski, Citizen Kingston, New York Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Arthur W. Wlodarek Black River, New York If movie stars, cartoon characters, and singers can be honored with a stamp, then definitely Audie Murphy deserves this recognition. It is long overdue.
David R. Wolbach, Veteran Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Penny Wolboldt North Warren, Pennsylvania Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Marilee Wolfe, Patriot Baltimore, Maryland Most of the younger generation do not know about our war heroes of yesterday. We need to give them some of our US history. When a cartoon or monsters get priority over heroes, there is something wrong with your choice.
Jim Wolfmeyer (not given) Hey guy...get with it! Elvis, Marilyn, etc.
Jason Wolford Tomah, Wisconsin Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Michael Wong San Francisco, California I hope we Americans don't forget people like Audie Murphy. Why is it so hard to honor a former enlisted person? There are stamps to honor our presidents and generals who are not as worthy a role model as Audie Murphy.
Ronald J. Wong Apple Valley, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Alan L. Wood Oswego, New York Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Lydia Wood Flushing, New York Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Ray Woodring ??? New Jersey I think Audie Murphy should be honored on a stamp. I mean, come on ... you put a cartoon on one! How stupid is that to honor a cartoon rabbit on one and not a man who dedicated him to the USA?
Theodore Woodson Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina Great idea!
Michael D. Worrell Nashville, Tennessee Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Alan Wright (351st MP Comp, Operation Desert Shield/Storm) Eustis, ???? As a Gulf War veteran and citizen, I believe that not honoring a man such as Audie Murphy is both morally and nationalistically wrong. While Bugs Bunny may have wider recognition it does not mean that a great American such as Lt. Murphy does not deserve his recognition. It was through his example of courage and honesty that men of his generation were able to secure our country's position on the world stage. Please reconsider your decision in regards to an Audie Murphy collector's stamp series.
Philip W. Wright, Sr., Citizen Elverta, California It will not be too much longer and those of us who remember those terrible years will be gone. Lets hope the ones coming up behind us will honor those who gave so very much. Keep going with the Memorial Day parades and fly that flag. Visit the cemeteries. Please give Audie his stamp, he was such a great American. And try to give it to him before Fred Flinstone gets his.
Seth Wright, Student Cookville, Texas You can give Winney the Pooh a stamp but not a hero?
Warren W. Wright Lehigh Acres This man was a true American hero. And I think a stamp to honor him would be fitting.
Jeremy J. Wyble Austin, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
