We give stamps to rock stars and dinosaurs but how about a real hero who
gave all for his country and today is beginning to be a faded memory. Let's
honor a real American hero!!!!

Audie L Murphy, no man in US military history served his country
more honorably in combat. The least this country can do is honor him
with a commemorative stamp series.

Sir, I am ashamed that this country has not honored Mr. Murphy. He was a
hero and he symbolizes just what "America" stands for ... Freedom and
Patriotism. A true American hero.

We must remember the individual, totally unselfish actions and sacrifices
made by Audie Murphy during WWII. He was the real deal, Mr. Runyon, and
there is no better way to honor his efforts today than with commemorative
stamps.

I do not remember Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Bugs Bunny, etc. performing any
act of unselfish bravery. World War II may have had a different ending if
not for great men like Audie L. Murphy. I consider it an insult to America
that you would choose to honor an animated character over an American hero!!

Audie Murphy was a genuine American hero. He has received many honors -- and
earned every one of them -- but has not yet been honored with a stamp. I
believe that this would be a fitting tribute, but more importantly, this
would give people who have heard of him a reason to ask, "Who was Audie Murphy?"
and thus provide an opportunity for the American public to learn about Audie
Murphy and men like him who have served America so well but are in danger of
being forgotten today.

I think it would be a great idea to honor Audie Murphy with a stamp series.
It is soldiers like this man who we, as Americans, owe our freedom to. The
price of freedom runs high, and Audie Murphy was willing to pay the price so
that you and me have our freedom. So, I feel like a stamp can represent our
"thankyou" in a small way.

I strongly recommend that a commemorative stamp be issued in
honor of Audie L. Murphy, the most decorated American military
service member who ever fought during World War II or any war.
Audie Murphy was the recipient of every medal of valor our country
could give including the Medal of Honor and medals of valor earned
from the countries of France and Belgium.

As a person who grew up in the 60's, I have some idea about peers to look up
to in this country. One of the reasons it (our country) is going downhill is
because of the lack of good peers. Another reason is that because of all the
music stars and sales geared to kids we have forgotten to tell our children
of the past. I am glad to say that my 16 year old son has seen TO HELL AND
BACK which is about a young boy that did not turn into a gangster and sell
drugs but instead joined the service to send home money to take care of his
orphaned siblings. I think the time is now for an Audie Murphy stamp so
that we can tell children about citizens of this country that did great
things. What do you think?

be. Of course, why not do this for Audie Murphy - after all he did fight to
help keep this country free.

I think Audie Murphy should be honored by a stamp series to help honor
this great American. It is a dishonor to Audie Murphy's memory not to
be remembered in this way when Bugs Bunny can have a stamp in his honor.
I think this is a disgrace and a very bad example the Postmaster is
setting for America's youth...

Postage stamps have traditionally been utilized as a subtle way to remind
people of historic events and people who have served this country. The
postal service seems to have forgotten that the sacrifices
made by Audie Murphy and so many other veterans are what keep this country
free and have made it possible for the now privately operated postal service
to make money selling Bugs Bunny and Marilyn Monroe stamps. The least they
could do is to honor this country's most decorated combat soldier of WWII
with a stamp.

The postal service has traditionally used stamps as a subtle reminder of
great events in our nation's history and people who provided services and
made great sacrifices for our country. What kind of a subtle message does
it send to young people when the privately run postal service now prefers to
sell stamps portraying people whose fame was based on self-profit motives
rather than service to this country (i.e. Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis
Presley, ... and now Warner Brother's Bugs Bunny) over a national hero like
Audie Murphy?????

Mr. Marvin Runyon:
Sir, the list of Americans who are honored by a commemorative stamp is small.
The list of those Americans who are not is very large. The list of Americans
who should never be honored is larger still. But the list the Postmaster General
should be ashamed of is: THOSE AMERICANS WHO, BY ANY MEASUREMENT, SHOULD HAVE
A STAMP TO HONOR THEM, BUT DO NOT!! For this country, the United States Of
America, not to have a commemorative stamp in memory of, and in honor of
Audie L. Murphy is beyond reasoning. Please remedy this by doing so.

Postmaster, I for one think it is disgraceful for you to put an entertainer
like Elvis Presley on a stamp and not one of the United States true hero's.
I have nothing against Elvis, in fact, he was the greatest, but to honor him
with a commemorative stamp and not Audie Murphy our "hero"? This is the worse
thing I have ever heard of. Audie risked his life for us. What did Elvis
do???? Think about it!!!!

Most of the younger generation do not know about our war heroes of yesterday.
We need to give them some of our US history. When a cartoon or monsters get
priority over heroes, there is something wrong with your choice.

As a Gulf War veteran and citizen, I believe that not honoring a man such
as Audie Murphy is both morally and nationalistically wrong. While Bugs
Bunny may have wider recognition it does not mean that a great American such
as Lt. Murphy does not deserve his recognition. It was through his example
of courage and honesty that men of his generation were able to secure our
country's position on the world stage. Please reconsider your decision in
regards to an Audie Murphy collector's stamp series.
