As an American citizen, I think the United States Postal Service should

I strongly urge that Audie Murphy be honored with a commemorative stamp.
It dismays me to think that the USPS takes the time and money to print
stamps "honoring" such heroes as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck while refusing to
honor a real American Hero. Being 36 years of age, I know only of Mr.
Murphy's heroism through what I have researched. It is time that this
country honors Mr. Murphy's memory before he is forgotten.

It is extremely rare that anyone pay attention to the words of a
10th grade student (I felt it was my duty to point out my age and steer
clear of deception). If nothing else, though, I hope that you realize the
serious lack of patriotism here in the U.S. and use your influential
position to fight against the universally passive stance of the people
with regard to national pride. No one salutes the flag any more; maybe
they would if they thought the most decorated veteran of all time was
worthy of a POSTAGE STAMP, for Pete's sake. Give me a break. Give the
man at least as much credit as an imaginary, anvil-dropping cartoon
bunny.

The U.S. Post Office has seen fit to issue stamps honoring such actors as
James Dean, Humphry Bogart, and Marilyn Monroe. While it cannot be
denied that these people were fine actors, they certainly never were
honored by the U.S. Government as Audie Murphy was. It certainly
should be mentioned that one of the aforementioned actor's greatest
claim to fame was an affair with the President of the United States and
his brother, the Attorney General of the United States. This is public
knowledge, and surely not something to be proud of. Yet, your office
saw fit to honor this person with a stamp. Also, Elvis Presley, while
one of the greatest rock and roll singers of all time, had a drug abuse
problem so great that he died of it. This is also public knowledge.
Your office saw fit to honor him with a stamp. So how can you justify
not issuing a stamp for Audie Murphy whose accmplishments were
recognized by the U.S. Government by making him the most decorated
soldier in any war! He was also an accomplished actor. This fact alone
should qualify him for a stamp, as your office has already honored other
actors. Shame on you and your office for seeing fit to honor these
other people while denying this honor to Audie Murphy. I hope that you
will reconsider and give Audie Murphy the commemorative stamp that he
truly deserves.

As a retired foreign service officer and Air Force veteran I have had the
opportunity to see life around the world and to reflect on how lucky I am
to have been born an American and to enjoy the rights a priveleges of
American citizenship. It was and continues to be men like Audie Murphy
who at the risk of and sometimes at the cost of their lives, preserved,
protected, and defended those rights. We should not allow the mere passage ]
of time to obscure their and his very real deeds. We can never fully repay
