Steve Olson Bernalillo, New Mexico Audie Murphy is a true American hero. He rose from the destitution of his early childhood to become many things: A war hero whose men came first, a combat infantryman who stayed in the front and later suffered from battle fatigue before it was recognized as an illness, a self taught movie star whose heart and feelings for others shines through in many of his acting roles. Many generals and others who did not participate in front line combat have been commemorated on stamps. Audie Murphy deserves to be recognized for his great sacrifice and concern for the common man.
