Daryl E. Hahn Tempe, Arizona Surely Audie is more deserving than the Keystone cops, Lon Chaney, Elvis and many many other people that have been pictured on US stamps. I could go on and on with a list of things, such as birds, deer, seashells, etc. What's so difficult about putting a National Hero on a US stamp?
Wayne E. Hair Copperas Cove, Texas Sergeant Audie Murphy has been selected by the U.S. Army as the epitome of the Noncommissioned Officer and sanctioned an exclusive club to honor those active and reserve Army NCOs that demonstrate the high standards, character, and traits of Audie Murphy. If the United States Army finds Sergeant Audie Murphy to be of such high caliber and wants the NCOs of today's Army to emulate him, certainly the United States Postal Service should find this American hero worthy of having a stamp honor this great American.
Ed Halbrook Santa Ana, California Audie deserves a stamp far more than most everybody you have put on stamps for the last ten years.
Karen Hall Newbury, New Hampshire If Elvis rates a stamp then our greatest war hero more than deserves a stamp series.
Michael T. Hall North Tazewell, Virginia If rock stars, sex symbols, pictures of fruit, birds, and a million different other things can be put on stamps then why can't a real life American hero who fought and sacrified a lot for his country have his likeness put upon a stamp. I'm talking about Audie L. Murphy. It's sad that the day has come when this country has all but forgotten its own. Audie L. Murphy was a true AMERICAN HERO and its a shame America has all but forgotten him. What has become of this country when we cannot even honor our own HEROS.
Susan Halydier (city unknown), Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Clark Hamblen Fullerton, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Ed Hammond Hamden Connecticut Bugs Bunny may deserve a stamp but he is no hero. Let's put potential profit aside a pay tribute to a true American Hero. Audie Murphy has earned our respect. He deserves the honor of having a commemorative postage stamp issued in his name.
Kathleen E. Hancock Durham, North Carolina Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Franklin D. Handy, Disabled Vet Connersville, Indiana It is important to this nation that we do all possible to keep the heroes ever present in the hearts and minds of our citizens, both young and old. I would think this man would be up front when it comes to this type of recognition. JUST DO IT.
Christopher J. Haney, Professional Holland, Pennsylvania I called on C-SPAN on Jan 1, 1998 Mr. Azeezaly Jaffer of the USPS was being interviewed and asked why there is such a resistence to an Audie Murphy series of stamps. He told me on C-SPAN that you are still considering Mr. Murphy. I hope you right this wrong soon. Thank you.
Angela Carol Hanners, Student LaGrange, Georgia This man deserves this honor more than any person honored before.
Mike Hanners, Retired Navy Lagrange, Georgia Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Phillip Michael Hanners, Retired Navy Lagrange, Georgia If Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WWII does not meet the requirements for this honor, then you need to rewrite the requirements.
Rae-Jean C. Hansell Copperas Cove, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Diana L. Hansen Washougal, Washington Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Lacy Hansen Washougal, Washington If the regional post office can honor movie stars who did not have the status that Audie has as the most decorated soldier in U.S. history, then they can at least put out one stamp in his memory. He deserves at least that much. Thank you for caring!!
Beth Harrelson Jacksonville, Florida Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Jimmy Harrelson Jacksonville, Florida Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard C. Harrelson, Jr. Jacksonville, Florida Bugs Bunny, yes? American military icon, no? What is wrong here, Mr. Runyon?
James C. Harris Killeen, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Roy Glen Harris Ellsworth, Air Force Base, South Dakota I feel that Mr. Murphy should be honored with an entire commemorative stamp series due to the fact that Mr. Murphy was a many of many faces.

First and foremost, Mr. Murphy was one of the greatest war heroes of the country which I now defend so that you have the ability to rest at night under the defense that I and my brothers in arms provide. I didn't see draft-dodging John Wayne or Bugs Bunny on the battle field!

Second, Mr. Murphy was an accomplished actor with movies such as TO HELL AND BACK, DESTRY, THE QUIET AMERICAN, NO NAME ON THE BULLET, and THE TEXICAN. Through his accomplishments in film, at the bare minimum, Mr. Murphy should (if he isn't already) be honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. He's far more worthy of having a stamp series made in his honor than those born on foreign soils such as Princess Diana of Wales.

Third, Mr. Murphy was an accomplished song writer, writing such songs as "Shutters and Boards" of which there are over 60 recordings. He also wrote such classics as "When the Wind Blows in Chicago", "Dusty Old Helmet" (his poem which Scott Turner set to music), and "Was It All Worth Losing You?", which was later recordec by Charlie Pride. Does "Jail House Rock" really warrant a stamp for an artist who died of a drug overdose?

In closing, I think that Mr. Murphy deserves the same honor that he has given this land which we call the United States of America. To quote Mr. Murphy himself, "Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle. Let it soar with the winds high above Among the Spirits of soldiers now sleeping. guard it with care and with love." (Taken from "Dusty Old Helmet")
Steven E. Harris Methuen, Massachusetts Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Robert L. Harrison Greenfield, Ohio Please honor a great American. Surely he deserves as much recognition as Elvis!
Jerry & Glenda Hart Farmersville, Texas Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Mary Hartel St. Paul, Minnesota Audie Murphy was someone special in the history of the U.S. With WWII celebrating it's 50th year, many of the younger generation do not know who Audie was. They and all others should be reminded of what he did for this country.
SFC Joe Harvey Fort Belvoir, Massachusetts Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Sam Hatcher Pikeville, Kentucky Audie Murphy certainly appears to be a person worthy of commemoration by a postage stamp.
Samuel S. Haver Manhiem, Pennsylvania Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Larry Hawley South Wells, New York Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Dennis Hayes, Active Air Force Vandenberg A.F.B, California Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Stella Haynes Universal City, Texas Dear Sir:
My hero as I was growing up was Audie Murphy. He was an inspiration to a lot of us growing up during the Vietnam era. He needs to be remembered by a whole new generation that has no heroes. Thank you.
Robert Headrick Otis ANGB, Massachusetts Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Don Hearne Woodland Hills, California Audie Murphy was a great war hero and movie star. Because of his diverse contributions to America's freedom in war and its culture through movies Audie is entitled to be remembered with a commemorative stamp. Thank you.
Michael J. Heeter Copperas Cove, Texas Audie Murphy's bravery and his outstanding life should be an inspiration to all of today's youth. In keeping with the Postal Service's fine tradition of honoring outstanding Americans, I believe a commemorative stamp honoring Audie L. Murphy would be appropriate.
Terry Hefner, Educator Killeen, Texas Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Jessica Heidmann, Fan Phoenix, Arizona Let's not forget about real heroes.
E. Michael Helms Port St. Joe, Louisiana Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Cadie Helt Weatherford, Oklahoma I cannot believe that a true hero such as Audie Murphy who risks his life for his country and comrades is not being represented by a stamp. That is disgusting.
Donnie Henderson Ross-shire, Scotland I think that the greatest war hero should be honored with a stamp collection. He was a real life hero not like some who are remembered on stamps for being just acting heroes.
Wynona K. Hennessey Grand Junction, Colorado If they can give a medal to Frank, why can we not honor a hero that fought for our country. There is something very unfair here.
Joseph N. Henon, Disabled Vet Hephzibah, Georgia I think a country such as ours that makes heroes out of men that PLAY ball and rock and roll singers should have a stamp series for a REAL AMERICAN HERO. As a disabled vet, I feel that our country is doing a great disservice to Audie Murphy. I appreciate your time and effort concerning this matter.
Sue Henriott Apopka, Florida Audie Murphy is a national hero and should be remembered nationwide. So all of our youth will understand patriotism and giving to ones country. The United states is the greatest country in the world where we have the freedom to speak our minds and not be arrested. The young need to appreciate that.
Liz Henson Winfield, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Mike Henson Winfield, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Thaine E. Hepelr Jr. Clovis, New Mexico It is time for recognition of the acts of bravery exhibited by Audie L. Murphy. I can think of no more deserving an American than Audie for inclusion into the commerative stamp series. If not for him and those like him, America might not be what it is today.
Joseph Herron Pearl River, Louisiana Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Thomas R. Hession Springfield, Minnesota Please honor this request for a commemorative stamp in honor of Audie L. Murphy. This is long overdue.
Roger A. Heydt Ashley, Pennsylvania Drug plagued sports figures, demented rock singers, and a President whose claim to fame is traveling to Moscow when he should have been learning the fine points of the manual of arms--now don't you think we could at least have a tiny little stamp for an American (Texan too) the caliber of Audie Murphy? Well, my God--I hope so!

I had no idea there was an effort to have an Audie Murphy stamp, but it is a good idea. And Mr. Postmaster, I would hope you don't continue to ignore the petitions--because I'm just looking for a cause--and this just might be it. And you snail-mailers are not exactly at the top of everyone's "we like you" list, so maybe you could at least acknowledge those folks who have sent the petitions. I'd get the PIO or PR folks on this one right away. In fact, I think it's such a good idea I will pull some information from this web page, couple it with my first recall of the famed "To Hell and Back" memories, whip out an editorial, and give it to our news director this week.

No, we're not a major network, but, well, we do have a few listeners.

Have a nice day. Don't let this one get by you.

Dedra M. Higgins Dallas, Texas Not only do I think it's time we have a stamp commemorating Audie Murphy, but how about Alvin York as well?
Edye Higgins Batesville, Mississippi We have stamps of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and a few others ... why not the most decorated soldier of all time, Audie Murphy?
Chris Hillman, Professional Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard Hindman Garland, Texas It is difficult to believe that the United States' most decorated combat soldier has not received a stamp commemorating his contributions to our country. I can think of no one more deserving than Audie Murphy.
Lieutenant Colonel Theodore E. Hit Buchanan, Tennessee Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Art Hites Riverside, Ohio Audie Murphy exemplifies the citizen soldier in a time of a great national crisis who rises to meet the challenge. He was an ordinary American youth who left an extraordinary legacy of bravery and personal accomplishment. It is imperative that this great American hero be remembered in ages to come. The Post Office can begin to call attention once again to Audie Murphy.
Everett D. Hockenberry III Ft. Hood, Texas Audie should be honored with a commemorative stamp.
Matthew M. Hodgins Pace, Florida Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
James A. Hoffman Saluda, Virginia I'm an active duty service member and I feel that Audie Murphy is very much entitled to a stamp, more so that a silly cartoon. Audie Murphy is real and his actions were real. Nothing that Audie Murphy did was fake or make believe. It is time for the Postmaster General to "Get Real" and honor the person who deserves it!!!!!!!!!!
Peter Hoffman, Citizen Greenville, South Carolina If Audie Murphy isn't a worthy topic for a series of stamps, then I can't imagine what would be. The sort of character he demonstrated is the kind that should be held up as an ideal to the people of the U.S. today to remind them of their duties not just as citizens but as human beings.
Kathrynne Holden Fort Collins, Colorado We are disgraced if we put Elvis on a stamp and do not honor a great hero like Audie Murphy, who was wounded fighting for our country.
Doris D. Holder Brush, Colorado Audie Murphy was a great American who believed in his country and had to fight very hard for his country.
Granville L. Hollan, National Guard Union, Kentucky Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Allan Hollenbeck, Veteran Ogden, Utah Audie Murphy is more important than half of the things you have depicted on a stamp. Stop being stubborn and do the honorable thing.
Linda Holley Jacksonville, Florida We have very few war heroes that were as popular as Audie Murphy. If we can put a rabbit on a stamp, then put a hero who put his life on the line for his country.
Jim Hollingsworth Camas, Washington Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Deborah Holt Thousand Oaks, California Audie was a good friend to my father and a lifelong example to him. His heroics should be celebrated.
Joseph E. Hood Garland, Texas Audie Murphy was an American soldier whose heart and life were American. All of us who have been in armed conflict defending this country know what level of courage was required. "Little Texas" did his job and lived the American Spirit. He should be commemorated by a series of stamps, both to honor his deeds and remind each of us what it takes to remain free.
Raymond C. Hoover Jr. Jacksonville, Florida I am a US Navy Veteran who served his country during a "cold" war. It is difficult for me to imagine the hardships faced by the brave souls who preceded me during WW-II. Undoubtably one of the bravest of those brave souls was Audie Murphy!! I find it intollerable that this country has not seen fit to honor Audie Murphy with a stamp, BUT we have one for Elvis Presly!!!! Don't misunderstand me, I have nothing against Elvis, but you can hardly compare his contributions to this country with those of Audie Murphy!! I think that I shall use this wonderful tool ("E"-Mail) and make the producers of 20/20, 60 minutes, Hard Copy, and any other news/tabloid organization I can think of, aware of this terrible injustice! Perhaps the only way to make your "patriotism" stir is to light the flame of bad publicity under your butt!! You should be ashamed sir!
Anne Hopfensperger Killeen, Texas It has been too long coming!
Thomas C. Hopper Alexander, Alabama Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Douglas M. Horeczko Northfolk, Virginia Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Robert Horton Las Vegas, Nevada Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
James C. Houston San Antonio, Texas Sir: Audie Murphy is one of the greatest heroes of this country's history. I think it is deplorable that a cartoon character is honored with a commemorative stamp ahead of him. Please reconsider your decision and authorize a commemorative stamp for Audie L. Murphy. Thank you very much.
Chris Howard Estes Park, Colorado Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Wayne Howard Bailey, Colorado Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
William Howard Slidell, Louisiana Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Richard Howland Graham, Texas It seems a shame that we put some of our least desirable citizens on stamps. Then we leave out many who deserve more. When we have to print stamps anyway, why not our heros?
Carl Huffman Houston, Texas Hey, everyone likes that Elvis stamp...and if Elvis could talk, then I think he'd say:
"Mystery train...lonesome whistle on that long off ramp"
"Mystery train...lonesome whistle on that long off ramp"
"I'm just a-rockin' here in Heaven"
"a-Waitin' for that Audie Murphy Commemorative Stamp"
Then he'd say 'Thank yew, thank yew vera much.'
Frangois Hugon Georgia Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Dan Hullinger Farmington, Utah Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Tommy J. Hunter Lampassas, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Troy D. Hunt Fort Lee, Virginia This is the right thing to do, and you will be happy that you were responsible for making others besides yourself happy too. Thanks.
Roy T. Hussey, III; Worker Troy, Texas This is an important petition. Audie Murphy is one of the greatest American's in the history of our country and certainly deserves this honor.
Tracy Hussey, Student Troy Tennessee This is a very important petition. It honors one of our greatest Americans in history.
Robert Hyde Glen Ellen, Illinois I feel Audie Murphy should be honored with a commemorative stamp series. He represents the end of the WWII era as the aging veterans pass away. He died before his time, but his actions in WWII live on and should be recognized. If Elvis Presley is on a stamp Audie Murphy, American Hero, deserves a whole series!
