Robert F. Dagen South Byron, New York I think it is very appropriate that an American hero should be so honored and remembered.
Penny Dangelo Phoenix, Arizona I am only one of the many that believes Audie L. Murphy should be honored with a commemorative stamp.
Eva Dano La Puente, California Audie was a great man, a great American, as well as a dear personal friend. I think that nowadays most people don't think too much about the brave young men who fought in WWII. They should be remembered, and especially the bravest of them all, Audie Leon Murphy.
Gregory E. Davies Winnfield, Louisiana We should recognize such an American hero.
Anthony D'asero Norwalk, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Connie Davidson Kansas City, Missouri Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Alan Davis Arvada, Colorado Please honor Audie Murphy with a commemorative stamp. Not only was Mr. Murphy a great war hero, but he also made many very fine western pictures that will have a positive influence on generations to come. It's high time we honor true American heros who stand for honest values rather than the likes of pop culture icons who are poor examples to American youth due to their use of drugs, liquor, and immorality.
Andrea Davis Orem, Utah I think that it is terrible that it takes a petition to get our Postal Service to honor the most decorated hero in the history of our country. Mr. Runyon, and others fighting against this effort, should be ashamed. Audie Murphy deserves a commemorative stamp.
D. Kent Davis Orem, Utah The Postal Service is long over due in honoring this American hero. Let's get with it!
Donald L. Davis, Mason Bremerton, Washington Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Major James P. Davis, US Army (Retired) Edgewater, Maryland In a time when our country seems to be forgetting what real heroes are, it is important to remind the public. I get extremely worried when I see "Our Public Role Models" and "Heroes" getting away with spitting in a baseball umpires face, basketball stars that at their best look like clowns and always seem to make the front page of the paper because of a drug bust, or shooting. Isn't it time that we begin to refocus attention on people that have had a positive impact on this country? Not just military heroes, like Audie Murphy, but also organizations such as the VFW on it's 100th birthday. I'll admit that many acts of the current society give the impression that we are developing a "Looney Tunes" world, but with effort, that can change.
Theresa Y. Davis, Veteran Green Bay, Wisconsin This is entirely rediculous since they honor so many unworthies ... what's the deal with honoring someone the people want? Even the Postal Service is out just for the money.
Judy Dayton, Teacher Evant, Texas Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Manu De Canck Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Herbert L. De Groot Staten Island, New York Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Agustin Eastwood De Mello Moss Landing, California I believe that Audie Murphy is entitled to and should be honored with an entire stamp collection for many reasons:
  1. He was the greatest of all American heroes.
  2. He also put his life on the line to fight against drug dealers.
  3. He waged a battle against animal cruelty.
  4. He was a family man.
  5. He was a sincere friend to those who knew him.
John E. de Meurers, Sr. Redwood, New York As a retired Navy and Army veteran, I am well aware of the special qualities needed for any man to act in a selfless manner, when faced with the very real possibility of death.

Audie Murphy demonstrated not once, but many times, the depth of his love of country .... and his acts were deemed by his peers to be in the very best traditions of the service. His acts were also in keeping with the Bible's teaching, that the greatest love possible is the willingness to lay down one's life.

Audie Murphy deserves far more than this country has ever given him .... he deserves a Statue in Washington, D.C.; he deserves to have his example taught to every school child as an attainable goal in life.

Let's start the recognition due him with a stamp for the man who never talked about duty. Instead, he demonstrated what committment is all about!
Vinane De Mey De Pinte, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Joseph De Monico Piscataway, New Jersey If Rock And Rollers get to be on stamps, who is more deserving to have a stamp series than one of our greatest heroes who fought in so many battles so as to make it possible for Rock and Rollers to have an opportunity to be on a stamp?
Thomas B. De Mott Patuxent River, Maryland It is a disgrace that Bugs Bunny can be so honored when America's most decorated soldier cannot. Think about this!! And right the injustice!
Peter De Ploey Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Georges De Rycke Maarkedal, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Peter De Sena Islip Terrace Who and why would anyone deserve a stamp more than Audie Murphy?
Mark Dean (not given) Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Regis C. Dean Silver Spring, Maryland Sir: Audie Murphy an was honored war veteran and a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. Elvis Presley was also a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. What is it that Elvis should be honored by the issue of a stamp when he died as a washed up drug addict, and Audie Murphy should be overlooked? I would prefer someday to see my son gaze at a commemorative stamp of Audie Murphy and ask me to explain his place in history than to try to explain Elvis Presley's. I realize that memorials to the painful reality of war may not be pleasant, but are necessary, lest we forget...
Lt. Col. James V. Dearing Boalsburg, Pennsylvania Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Bobbie Deeter Marshalltown, Iowa It is ludicrous that there has to be a petition requesting a stamp to honor Audie Murphy who President Harry Truman called "the best soldier we've had since George Washington." It is more reasonable to request of Mr. Runyon "why isn't there a stamp honoring Audie Murphy?"
Anthony DeFalco, Professor Huntington Station, New York Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Joseph DeFrancesco Brooklyn, New York Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Bobby G. Dempsey Covington, Georgia Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Winston Denley Deer Park, Texas I feel that an Audie Murphy commemorative stamp is long overdue. In fact, a series of "Medal of Honor" stamps honoring all these great American heroes should be offered.
Isabel Denoo Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Lutgart Depaepe Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
J. DeRosa San Bernadino, California Such a hero should be honored before that of entertainers who have given the same as he.
Monika Desloovere Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Nicole Desloovere Gent, Belgium As the winner of one of my country's highest medals for valor and heroism, Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
John Devendorf Encinitas, California Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Steven Devillier, Veteran League City, Texas Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Larry C. Dewey, Active Army Anniston, Alabama Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
David C. Diefendorf Highland, California Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Branch Dildine, Active Army Fort Myer, Virginia Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Dennis R. Ditterline Valparaiso, Indiana Audie Murphy was my father's commanding officer during the war and it took the government 50 years to award my father the bronze star he earned. I think someone should show their appreciation for the deeds they did for their country and for the price they all paid to defend this country we all call home.
R. L. Doak, II; Civil Servant Church Road, Virginia Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Barbara Donald Ontario, Canada Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Ron Downs Orangevale, California Bring the real heroes back to the American youth and help those of us that served in the military to maintain the pride in the country we were willing to give our lives for.

Ron Downs (SK2)
U.S. Navy 1964-1967
USS Topeka CLG-8 (Vietnam 1965-66)
USS Preston DD-795 (Vietnam 1967)
Jimmy L. Drawdy Copperas Cove, Texas Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Dale Dressler, Veteran Jacksonville, Florida Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Millard J. Driscoll, Veteran Summerville, South Carolina If you can honor Bugs Bunny, you should be able to honor a true AMERICAN WAR HERO. This man bled for his country on the battlefield. HONOR HIM NOW!!!
Bruce Drysdale Higbee, Missouri Your priorities are not in order! Bugs Bunny???? What an American hero he is!!! Audie is an American Hero and should be honored as such! I'm a Vietnam vet.
Joanne E. Dryden-Lee Phoenix, Arizona Please: Our young people are losing touch with historical concepts. I have a picture of Audie Murphy on the cover of LIFE in my home and rarely does a younger person know who he is. If James Dean qualified for a stamp, then it is past time for a stamp of Audie Murphy.
Jeff Dulak Kenosha, Wisconsin Audie Murphy should be honored on a commemorative stamp
Chuck Dulaney Lawton, Oklahoma Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Barry E. Dunn Tallahassee, Florida A true American hero like Audie Murphy deserves to have a postage stamp in his honor alone ...
Gregory J. Dunn Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Anthony D. Dutra Norfolk, Virginia If anyone should be honored with a commemorative stamp our greatest war hero should. I collected stamps as a child and remember looking up people and events after I learned about it from a stamp. Please provide my children and grandchildren a way to become aware of this great American.
Randy Duvall McKinney, Texas Audie should be honored on a commemorative stamp.
Dick Dwyer Washington Court House, Ohio Audie should be honored with an entire stamp series.
Claudia Dzengielewski Milton, Massachusetts I believe Audie L. Murphy has more qualifications than anyone recently commemorated on a stamp. Marilyn Monroe certainly didn't other than being a movie star and becoming a legend by dying at an early age. Before Audie was a star he was a "hero" and a very young hero. I dougt that many young men today could live up to that. He served his country well and continued doing so when he returned homed. It's unfortunate his life ended so soon. Audie should be recognized for all his achievements: hero, soldier, movie star, cowboy, and citizen.
Mike H. Dziat Florence, Alabama Audie Murphy should be honored with an entire stamp series.
