It is time for America to remember its heroes. Too many have been
forgotten. Put Lt. Murphy on a series of stamps to honor his memory.

AUDIE MURPHY is without argument the bravest man in American history and
should be so honored with an entire series of first-class postage stamps.
We honor bloated, old drug-addled rock stars because they sold records.
We should honor such a man for saving the lives of so many of his comrades!

I have seen some of the stamps you have put out and truthfully, I am
appalled that you people would hesitate to honor this man who gave his
all that this nation could be free. Maybe its time we have a new postmaster
general who is able to see what freedoms we have today because of men
like Audie Murphy!!!

I am second cousin to Audie on the Killian or his mother's side. The
thing I am the most proud of is his war record and his modesty. I am
sure of one thing: if Audie were here today, he would tell us to honor
all of those men and women who gave their lives for their country for
they were the true heroes.

have given us the freedom that we have.

In today's troubled times, there is a need to honor and remember true heroes.
Our youth deserves knowledge of what a real life hero and American patriot
is and Audie Murphy is one of the best examples we could give. There isn't
many real life hero figures today so let us keep the great one's alife in
everyone's minds.

If Elvis Presley, a fat singer who OD'd, can get one stamp, then Audie
Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WWII who went on to have a very
successful film career, and so much more, and who died far too young,
should have a whole bunch of stamps in his honor. He's been gone for
27 years. What's the hold up?

If anyone deserves to be honored with the issuance of a stamp, Audie
Murphy is the one. He was a person who's courage saved countless lives.
His courage should be honored and the generations that have come after
him should be told about that courage. The people of the United States
needs to be reminded about the cost of freedom and the acts of regular
people that have become forgotten due to the passage of time.

Audie Murphy was more than a war hero, which is a great honor in itself.
He was a true American hero who rose from the most humble of beginnings
to rise above his poor fate to be a war hero of the highest degree, not
a warrior politician. He went on to be a noted actor and songwriter ...
not an easy feat to accomplish even one of these goals. I fear he will
soon be nothing more than a footnote in our history as school children
of today are taught that self esteem is more important than men and
women who fought and died to make our country great. Thank you for
your time.

I think it is time to recognize the real heroes. Audie Murphy defended
this country unlike some who are recognized because they use drugs,
flaunt our laws, and use their power to the detriment of this country.
The best example of this is our so called President Clinton. There are
still some Americans with morals and character so lets recognize those
that have shown the example of what a true American is - one who puts
his life on-line for his country.

Please reconsider the issuing of an Audie Murphy Stamp. I cannot believe
we have stamps honoring Elvis and Bugs Bunny, but a true American Hero,
"Audie Murphy" has been turned down as unworthy is unspeakable. I think
most Americans would support the Audie Murphy Stamp. We should remember
our military heroes and enlighten a new generation of Americans of the
sacrifices made in the name of Freedom. Young people need as many
working class heroes in their face as we can put there.

It's long over due. If Elvis and Bugs can get a stamp, Audie Murphy

It is an outrage that the US Post Office has failed to recognize Audie
Murphy and yet continues to recognize cultural icons which are important
in remembering the flow of our culture. BUT Audie's accomplishments
defy normal human expectations. If he were alive today, Generals such
as Normal Schwartzkopf and Colin Powell would stop and salute him ... he
is that exceptional. At this writing I have undertaken a campaign to
contact my friends and relatives and elected officials to encourage them
to enter their vote for an Audie Murphy stamp(s). Often in our lives we
have the opportunity to do the right thing -- you have that now ---
overstep your process, and just do it.

This stamp would be an excellent way to honor veterans; past, present,

Being who you are doesn't mean knowing, but when you're in a uniform and

As a retired US Army officer, veteran of several wars, I find your
resistance to a stamp series for Audie Murphy disgraceful. My last
three days have been spent telling a young man how his father died in
one of OUR wars (USA wars), selflessly sacrificing his life to save
others. I have children ranging from 31 years to 6 years old and have
seen the decrease in awareness of what such sacrifice means. My 6 year
old loves the cartoon series you've approved and I have purchased many
of your promotions for him. Unlike some, I don't find that series as
negative; rather, I find it as part of the USA. However, in the
education and survival of this nation's youth, if you can't appreciate
the difference between the importance of a real character such as Audie
Murphy and a basketball playing cartoon character who plays with aliens
from another planet, then I will nominate you for the "Dumbing of
America" series after your death.
Sir, I say this with all due respect, as a former senior civil servant
(remember that word) myself. I realize and appreciate your conflicts.
It's not what the US Postal Service has done (and in my current business
I speak highly of you), it's what CAN be done. This isn't for all of
us who looked up to Audie Murphy and then went off and did what we had
to do. It's for all of the other youths who might ask: "Who was Audie
Murphy?" and carry their load.
