Military Patches

3rd Infantry Division Patch During World War II, Audie Murphy proudly wore the 3rd Infantry Division Patch from 1943 until 1945. During this period, he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. Audie Murphy was not the only Medal of Honor recipient from the 3rd Infantry Division either. During World War II a total of 36 Medal of Honors were earned by "Rock of the Marne" soldiers. As a result, 3rd Infantry Division soldiers proudly proclaim themselves as being the most decorated combat division during World War II.

Texas National Guard Patch After World War II, Audie Murphy continued to serve with the armed forces in the Texas National Guard as part of the 36th Infantry Division. This particular patch is identical to the one Audie wore while in the Texas National Guard. The patch was worn proudly by Sergeant Eric James before President Reagan at the 40th Anniversary of D-Day Ceremonies in France. The image of the patch was provided by the Texas Military Forces Museum.

My special thanks are extended to Mike Wheaton for providing the 3rd Infantry Division Patch appearing on this page. I would also like to extend my thanks to Randy Stiefer for providing the Texas National Guard Patch information appearing on this page.
