Colonel Dean R. Hess, USAF (ret) who was portrayed in the 1957 film "Battle Hymn" by Rock Hudson has endorsed the petition.
The film also starred Audie's old friend, Dan Duryea.
When viewing the petition you will see his name in the upper right portion under the narrative. He also has penned (not in his own hand) a short comment. Audie's name is mispelled as it was obviously penned by a caretaker or relative.
Colonel Hess is now 94 and I am pleased to add his name to our distinguished signatories.

Here is his bio:

Thanks,

Very cool, Dave! About the spelling thing, I think it says "Major Murphy" rather than "(Misspelling of Audie) Murphy." But I could be wrong.

This is another terrific endorsement, Dave. And I think Christie hit the nail on the head. The word looks very much like "Major" to me too.

Richard and Christie:

You are both totally correct. My glasses were busted as I wrote that post. I had a bad day here and after they were repaired I see that your conclussions are indeed correct.
Thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks again,

Dave
