General John Adams Wickham Jr. (got to love that first and middle name) has endorsed the petition for Audie. General Wickham is a former Chief of Staff of the Army and was very well-loved and respected during his time as Chief of Staff.
In addition General Wickham also is very highly decorated from his service in Korea and Vietnam, having earned the Silver Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
I might also add that the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club was enacted during the tenue of General Wickham as Army Chief of Staff.
We now have three (3) former Army Chiefs of Staff who have endorsed the petition campaign.

I can't tell you how many days ... morning after morning ... I would arrive to work at 0600 hours in the morning as a soldier to be greeted by this man. His picture was prominently posted in a frame on the wall in the hallway of my office with the rest of my chain of command. It's great to have this patriot aboard on our petition. Great job on getting his signature Dave! I am having flashbacks to the day when I was a butter bar lieutenant in Germany and this man was my boss!

As I recall Wickham was vbery much liked by the troops during his tenure as CoS. Your recollection reinforces what i had always heard.
Incidentally, I think in my original post I mentioned I had to write him three times to get his endorsement. He attached a separate note and stated he never recieved any of my previous correspondance. That makes sense as I did not have his apartment number at the time so I simply put his street address on the envelope without it and sent it anyway.
Interestingly, they were never 'returned to sender', so I had no idea he never recieved them; and we wonder why the postal service is going broke! Go figure!
