IIRC, that character has enough screentime toet a name-I will try to watch the film again soon and see if I can match character name to actor via IMDB.

Hi David, I don't know if I am correct, but that guy looks an awful lot like Bob Steele, who played in a lot
of Audie westerns. Just guessing though... Shirley Jean.

I've seen all of Bob Steele's movies, and that is not Bob.

If the mystery guy weren't so much taller than Murph, I'd almost peg him as Willard Willingham in a fake mustache.

I'll try to watch the film tonight and see what I come up with.

Went to Google and saw some photos of the different cast members. The only one that resembles the person in the photos was Zon Murray, who played Lucas. I'm not 100% it is him.

I thought about Zon Murray, too, but just doesn't seem to be, like Larry says, 100% on that either. I found the scene this pic is from and nobody calls him by name or anything. Maybe in a different part of the movie.

It may not be Zon Murray. I'm watching the film right now and it looks like "Lucas" is the name of one of the bad guy henchmen who killed the Englishman (included in the list when the Kid demands the names of all the guys involved). The dude with the mustache in David's picture is one of the Englishman's ranch hands so part of the opposite faction. I mean, it's possible the IMDB contributors got the names mixed up, or the scriptwriter managed to give both factions a "Lucas", but I'm leaning toward not Zon Murray at the moment.

OKay, during the raid on the ranch, someone who looks like that guy is addressed as Matt. Imdb says that Matt Curtis was played by Harold Goodwin (American actor who sometimes went by Herold Goodwin to avoid confusion with a British actor of the same name). Goodwin would be about the right age (born in 1902, would've been late forties when this film was shot), but I'm having trouble tracking down a good enough photo to be sure it's the same guy.

If it is the same guy, IMDB is listing him as the bank clerk in No Name On The Bullet, one of the bartenders in Ride Clear of Diablo, Col. Hopper in Joe Butterfly, Pick Gannon in Night Passage and Clay Weatherby in Whispering Smith ("The Quest", one of my favorite episodes).

PS: checked The Quest. Might be the same guy, 8-10 years older and a lot fatter, but I'm not sure.

PPS: Holy Universal Backlot, Batman! I think the exteriors of the one rancher's house in this episode is the Bates Mansion from Psycho.

Wow, thanks a lot. From the picture I have of Harold Goodwin, it most likely is him. Had to do some comparison's as the one I have has him smiling. And without the 'stache. He must have been a good friend of Audie's to be pictures so prominantly in this photo with him and in so many of his other works. Thanks again.

David,

That is great news about the book. A great concept and an interesting one that has not been done before. I will certainly want to add it to my Audie Murphy collection. Thanks for the updated report and that it will be available later this year.

David, I was to busy AM Days to think straight. I have a collection of autographs of the co-stars. If you are interested, I can scan and place them on a DVD and sent it to you.

It will take some time, their are 44 movies and about 5 to 10 autographs per movie.
