This was in an Audie Google Alert. I thought it was kind of funny.

Famous Cowboys & Aliens That Should Fight

While Cowboys & Aliens is one crazy rollercoaster ride, there are still a few buckaroos and extraterrestrials that should throw down.

Audie Murphy was the most decorated American soldier in history, destroying six tanks and killing more than 240 German soldiers during World War II. So while E.T. is dialing home or riding around in a bike basket, Murph would simply draw a bead on the bull's-eye that is the alien’s glowing heart, firing off multiple rounds before poor E.T. could even think about doing his wacky healing trick.

WINNER: AUDIE MURPHY

Heh, the guy writing those matchups was awfully down on cowboys: the aliens won all the other "duels." I actually don't think ET would have much to fear from Murph, the latter being such a softie towards children and critters that were neither dangerous nor good to eat. The Xenopmorphs from Alien, on the other hand....

Christie. Truer words were never spoken. And in my humble opinion, had Audie been alive and
able to go to the theater to see the movie, he would have cried openly like a lot of other theater
goers at this movie. According to this article, Audie was the ONLY cowboy to win his duel...
Just my thoughts... Shirley Jean.

Shirleyjean: a number of science fiction fans of a certain age dislike ET-either because they find the movie overly sappy or the creature design creepy. Since the writer is clearly a science fiction fan, and he's writing about good-guy aliens and more-or-less good guy cowboys, he will give the edge to the aliens, because he likes them more. His choice of adversary for ET sugests that he's one of these guys who strongly dislikes the little guy, and just wants to imagine him at the mercy of a highly efficient hunter.

David: now there's an explanation for Murph's time spent away from Hollywood in the sixties! He got kidnapped by Predators, dumped on an alien planet, took down the assorted drug lords, escaped Nazis, and Viet Cong also kidnapped by the aliens, then wiped out the Predators.
