Nice Memorial Day story about a Korean War paratrooper. Talks about his service and the time he went to Japan for R&R and met Murph during the filming of Joe Butterfly (with picture of them hanging out).

I have been going through some of the older topics and when I came to this one I almost fell off my chair as I lived in Mansfield Ohio two different times. It is the city right next to my hometown of Ashland and the Mansfield News Journal is the paper almost everyone in that part of Ohio reads and subscribes to. That is such a good picture of Audie and I never dreamed I would ever see something on this site that came from where I lived in Ohio. Actually I am surprised no one from home told me about this article in the paper last year but at least I know about it now. Thanks Christie for having found this article and putting on the board.

Cool, Sharon! That's a neat coincidence. Yeah, I was pretty stoked when I found it, because a new-to-me pic of Murphy out of character is always cause for rejoicing, and this is a nice one where you can tell that he is pleased to be where he is.

I would like to get an original scan or better quality image of this photograph for inclusion to the website. Sharon, is there any chance you might be able to track down the gentleman who wrote the story?

Cristie,

I certainly never knew about this photo before and Richard I will see if I can make some kind of contact with the gentleman from the story and see if there is a better quality picture to have for the website.
