I've been trying to collect pictures of the different editions of Audie's book. It is pretty impressive how many editions and printings there are. I own several; other images I got from the AMRF or found on various web sites, such as Amazon.com, eBay, & Abebooks.

I decided to create a Facebook group so I could display them. It is named the same as this subject; "To Hell and Back by Audie Murphy".

I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE 1ST PRINTING HAD THE RED-ISH BACKGROUND AND THE 2ND, 3RD, 4TH, & 5TH HAD THE YELLOWISH BACKGROUND. I AM ABOUT 95 % SURE OF THIS. ITS THAT 5% THAT MIGHT PROVE ME WRONG, SINCE I HAVEN'T FOUND A 4TH & 5TH. AS FAR AS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT, ONLY THE 1ST 5 PRINTINGS HAD THIS COVER. LATER PRINTINGS USED A DIFFERENT DESIGN. SO FAR I HAVE A 1ST, 2ND, & 3RD PRINTINGS. STILL LOOKING FOR 4TH & 5TH TO COMPLETE THE SERIES. WITH JACKET INCLUDED. HINT-HINT-HINT.

David, does that look like your reddish background first printing? Looks pretty orangeish to me. I have no clue what printing the first one I posted was; I scanned it back when I spent all that time working with Larryann. I saw so many marvelous things up there it is hard to remember specific details.

Note: No longer on eBay, but I know who got it. ME! I couldn't resist, even though it means no more eBaying and eating mostly rice and potatoes for a while, until I can replace what I had to take out of my emergency stash to pay for it. But it is WORTH IT! That makes 10 different editions, but this one will definitely be the star of my collection!

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU ALL. I GOT MY THAB BOOK IN 2002, IT IS COPYRIGHTED BY PAMELA MURPHY 1977. HOW CAN I KNOW WHAT EDITION IT IS? THE BOOK IS RED BUT THE COVER SHOWS 2 SOLDIERS RUNNING AND THE COVER IS ALSO RED AND THE TITLE IS WHITE PRINT. IT IS PUBLISHED BY MJF BOOKS. ALSO IT IS A HARDBACK BOOK. THANKS FOR THE INFO. Betty Lou; sounds like this is the one you have. Me too :D
There were several printings of it; from what I can figure out between 1977 and 1997. My book doesn't say what printing it is; I don't know if any of the others do. Maybe it is the first printing of this edition. Or maybe I just don't know how to read it. Mine has the following on the info page; the page just before the main title page:

Is yours any different? Maybe someone else can be more helpful. I bought mine from eBay, and I was told the year was 1997, but NOWHERE does it actually say so, and they didn't say what printing it was. I have a hunch the row of numbers have something to do with it, but I don't actually KNOW!

I DID GET THAT BOOK BACK IN ABOUT 97 OR SO BRAND NEW AND IT DOES SAY 1977 AND I KNOW THAT WAS NOT CORRECT. THE ROW OF NUMBERS ON THE BOTTOM SIGNIFYS THE PRINTING. MY COPY HAS
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 WHICH MEANS A 1ST PRINTING. EVA, YOURS THAT ENDS IN THE 4 IS A 4TH PRINTING. DON'T KNOW WHY THEY MAKE IT LIKE A SECRET CODE OR SOMETHING. YOU CAN LOOK AT PRETTY MUCH ANY BOOK MADE SINCE THE 90'S AND USE THAT LINE TO FIGURE OUT WHICH PRINTING.
