Lieutenant Murphy's
wounds have healed and the Nazis have surrendered. While in France awaiting orders
to return home Lieutenant Murphy has just been released from the hospital.
He is with his friend played by Jack Kelly. Besides Lieutenant Murphy,
Kelly represents the only other remaining soldier from the original Baker
Company. All others have died or were sent home because of their injuries.
In this scene, both men are reflecting back on their fallen comrades and the
dreams that will never be realized.
Historical Note: Although only two soldiers from the original Baker Company
did in fact remain with the Company until the German's surrendered, only one
was a combat soldier - Audie Murphy. The other soldier was a supply
sergeant.
Cinematic Note: This scene was cut from the final version of the movie before
it was released.
