In this scene, Audie is at his employer's and close friend's house. Audie's employer used to be in the military and often speaks of his experiences. His friend's son, who is a marine, is home on leave. Together, they hear on the radio that the United States has been attacked by the Japanese fleet at Pearl Harbor. Audie, because of the attack, and perhaps influenced by the example set by his friends, wants to enlist.
