The morning after the
night raid across the Volturno River, Baker Company and 3rd Platoon, which are
dug in along the river bank, begin firing at the Germans as the 7th
Regiment starts crossing the river upstream. The German artillery quickly
pins down Corporal Murphy's platoon. The platoon command post, which is
staffed by the platoon leader and platoon sergeant, take a direct hit from
German artillery. Here, Corporal Murphy leaves the safety of his foxhole and
immediatly moves forward to find out if the platoon leader and platoon
sergeant are okay.
