Private Murphy and
his men have fought, pushed hard, and quickly moved through the cities of Palermo
and Messina chasing the German Army off of the island onto the mainland of
Italy. Many soldiers were killed, though. Here, Private Murphy's unit is taking a
break somewhere in the area of Messina. They are reading about their
exploits in Sicily as told by the Stars and Stripes Newspaper ... the
official military newspaper of the armed forces during the war. They learn
that the Army's 10th Corp and the 36th Infantry Division, from Texas, is
having a tough time at Salerno, Italy and will need some help. Private Murphy also finds out
that he has been promoted to Corporal.
