Although not identified in the film, this probably represents an evening on pass in
Casablanca, North Africa which is the name of the port city located
near the 3rd Infantry Division's area of operations during November of 1943.
Although Private Murphy has entered the bar he doesn't drink or smoke.
In fact, Private Murphy rarely took a drink during his entire life and never
smoked at all. Private Murphy, who is barely 18, is shyly dancing with
Cleopatra (a.k.a. "Cleo"). While they are dancing, Cleo sings the 3rd
Infantry Division's theme song (the lyrics are provided below). The men and
Cleo are celebrating the news that the German Army has abandoned Africa for
the Mediterranean Island of Sicily. Private Murphy has yet to see his
first combat action.
